OBE Implementation Workshop Strengthens Academic Delivery at CeDS

PAGOH: Academic staff of Centre for Diploma Studies (CeDS), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) participated in the Strengthening the Implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Workshop held at Meeting Room 5, UTHM Pagoh. The session was delivered by Ts Dr Lam Hong Yin, an expert in OBE and academic quality assurance.

The workshop provided a clear and practical overview of OBE, focusing on the relationship between programme educational objectives (PEO), programme learning outcomes (PLO), and course learning outcomes (CLO). Ts Dr Lam emphasised the importance of constructive alignment, where teaching activities and assessments must directly support intended learning outcomes. Participants were introduced to the Course Table of Specification (ToS) to help ensure assessments are balanced, measurable, and aligned with Bloom’s Taxonomy.

Ts Dr Lam also explained the continuous quality improvement (CQI) cycle, guiding participants on analysing CLO attainment data, identifying root causes of underperformance, and proposing improvement actions for future semesters. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as TEACH-CRAFT was highlighted as a modern approach to enhancing teaching delivery, assessment design, and student engagement.

The workshop concluded with a reflection session in which participants expressed appreciation for the practical insights shared. The event successfully strengthened CeDS lecturers’ readiness to implement OBE more effectively, supporting UTHM’s objective of producing competent and industry-ready graduates.
